Jacqueline Bobo quote

Jacqueline Bobo says that students often take a course from the Women's Studies Program to fulfill a general education requirement and then, because the class piqued their interest, go on to take more classes.

"Many who are majoring in something else eventually add women's studies for a double major," she says. "Our students recognize the significance of service and applied learning."

Her own academic career began rather different from what it became. Bobo says she "always knew I would get a Ph.D., but I thought it would be in English, and that I would then write novels."

But, while she was studying English, she became aware of the power of film and television to bring about social change. She studied film and cultural analysis in graduate school and her courses emphasize the value of representation to activist endeavors.
