Dennis Aigner says that the Bren School is at the cutting edge of graduate programs devoted to the integration of science, social science, management, law, and policy in the area of environment. "Our goal is to produce those people who will lead and inspire us to solve environmental problems," he says. Aigner's research interests include corporate environmental management, foreign investment, and state and local economic issues. "We are at an important juncture in the evolution of man's relationship to the environment," he says, "and have reached the point where further rampant exploitation of the Earth's resources and unfettered pollution in its air, water, and soil is incompatible with a sustainable quality of life for its inhabitants now and into the future." And, he adds, " it will take people of unusual skill to manage the multifaceted nature of the issues we must confront and the problems we must solve to fulfill our role as stewards of the planet."
