Yegul Professor, History of Art & Architecture |
|
Professor Fikret Yegul, a specialist in ancient Greek and Roman art, was a successful architect when he made a career change and became a scholar of art history and architecture. Although he enjoyed practicing his craft, he found the business somewhat restrictive, because he wanted to travel the world to explore its art and architecture. The academic life would afford him that opportunity. "When you teach architecture rather than do it, you are still very much a part of the field," Yegul said. "The input of the young people keeps me more excited and vibrant about issues than being part of a business organization would." Yegul takes great pleasure in teaching undergraduate courses in art and architecture because, as he said, "its an exciting period in the life of a young person. You can have a great impact." He hopes his classes give students a greater understanding and a more tolerant view of the worlds history and cultures. |
