Liu Professor, Political Science |
|
When political science professor Alan Liu came to the United States to earn his masters degree in journalism, he had no idea that his career path would lead to UCSB. He had planned to become a reporter for an English-speaking newspaper in Taiwan, but "fate intervened," as he puts it, and he was invited to participate in a research project at the Center for International Studies at MIT. He completed the doctoral program in political science there and after two years of postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan, Liu was invited to join the faculty at UCSB. "My role as a teacher is to inform my students in a very objective manner and to teach them how to think for themselves," says Liu. "I want my students to know more about China and Asia and the political and economic relationship between that area and the United States," says Liu. I hope they can do in-depth analyses of international events regarding China and the U.S. and be knowledgeable leaders in their communities." |
