Deming Assistant Professor, Materials & Chemistry |
|
Timothy Deming, assistant professor of materials and chemistry, uses his research to show students how cutting-edge materials science applies to their everyday lives. He is part of a team trying to create artificial proteins for biotechnical and biomedical applications and find ways to use polymers to fight disease. "I really try to get across the basic concepts rather than supplying them with excess information," he explains. "I try to give students a glimpse of how this stuff theyre learning comes into their basic lives and how their understanding of these concepts helps them understand the world around them." Deming became interested in science as a junior high and high school student, but decided to pursue it as a career after working in a research lab as an undergraduate. He enjoys the opportunity teaching gives him to introduce students to his field of study. "People exposed me to science when I was younger, and I want to do the same for others." |
