History professor Sarah Cline spent her childhood immersed in Latin American history. Her father was a scholar in the field and sparked his daughters interest in the history of Mexico and Mexican Indians. "Im passionate about the things I study and I like to convey that to my students," Cline says. "I enjoy teaching. It informs my research and vice versa," she says. She hopes her students leave her classes with an increased awareness of the important role Latin America plays in world affairs, "and not see it as a problem, as its commonly portrayed." At the very least, she explains, "I want them to be able to read a newspaper and see stories on Latin America and understand them in a larger context." In addition to her courses on Mexico and the history of Mexican Indians, Cline teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Latin American history and the history of religion in Latin America. |
