Bisch Associate Professor, Mathematics |
|
Associate professor Dietmar Bisch developed a passion for his discipline as an undergraduate when he took a university mathematics class. It was love at first sight, he claims. He fell head over heels for its beauty and the rigorous analytical skills it requires. Bisch teaches upper- and lower- division courses, from basic calculus to advanced research-oriented graduate seminars. "Lower- division courses are important not just because of the actual math," he said, "but because of the analytical skills the student acquires. They are indispensable nowadays. Each profession uses sophisticated technology, and a thorough math class is a must." Bisch is doing research in operator algebras, a relatively young area of pure mathematics, which is closely related to quantum physics. "The richness of the mathematical structures and the connections to theoretical physics have always been the guiding principles in my work." |
